Henry Gale is the name claimed by a man whom
Danielle captures and suspects is one of the Others. After
she wounds him, Locke and Sayid confine Gale in the armory
of the Swan Station. Sayid, believing Danielle to be correct,
interrogates and tortures the man. Gale claims to be from
Minnesota, the wealthy former owner of a mining company
that mined for "non-metallic minerals". He and
his wife, Jennifer, crashed into the northern shore of the
Island while the two were traveling by helium/hot air balloon.
According to Gale, the two hid in caves until she fell ill
and died of a fever. Gale claims he then buried her in the
jungle.
In "Maternity Leave", Gale receives the visit
of Mr. Eko, who, considering Gale to be an "Other",
asks for forgiveness for the Others he killed during his
attempted kidnapping. Later in the episode, Gale tries to
further increase the tension between Locke and Jack by pointing
out to the former that Jack's the one who is making all
the decisions.
Ana eventually gets a chance to interrogate Gale and gets
a map from him to the spot where his balloon and wife's
grave should be. Ana enlists the help of Sayid and Charlie
and the three of them set off to find this location.
During this time, a Dharma supply drop occurs on the island,
and simultaneously, a strange distorted announcement occurs
over the hatch's loudspeaker. The blast doors come down
and Locke enlists the help of Henry to try and pry them
back open. In this process, Locke becomes trapped under
the blast door, and asks Henry to enter the numbers of the
computer as it's counting down - which he leaves to do.
When Ana, Sayid and Charlie discover the balloon and the
grave - Sayid diggs it up to reveal a man's body with ID
that reads "Henry Gale". When Sayid interrogates
him further, Henry says that he can't tell them anything
because "he'll kill me". When asked if "he"
is the bearded man (Zeke) he retorts "Him?! He's nothing,
he's no one!".
Later, Locke asks Henry who he is, and Henry asks to continue
to be called "Henry", and tells John that when
the computer was counting down during the blast door incident,
he never entered the numbers - instead they just flipped
back to 108 after the hieroglyphs.
Afterwards, Henry attacks Ana Lucia, who later decides
to kill him, though she can't go through with it. When Michael
discovers her, and tells her he will do it, he instead shoots
Ana and Libby and lets Un-Henry Gale disappear into the
jungle.
The next time we see Gale, he is getting off the power
boat in the Season 2 finale, delivering Walt to the betraying
Michael. It's obvious that Henry, who now has the upper
hand among the captured Jack, Sawyer, Kate, and Hurley,
is in charge. He releases Hurley and takes the others away
- hooded. |
